09.08.10 Spring and Summer
Well. There is certainly a lot to reflect on since our last entry, diary. For starters, we finished our first album, Swept Away. And it has been both a thrill and a relief. We spent well over 200 hours in the studio putting it together, and now it sits perched on my mantle in its shrink-wrapped kingdom. We owe a big debt of gratitude to Andre Doucette (Charterhouse music) for all his work and dedication on the project. It feels like we entered into the project completely wet behind the ears, but with his guidance we definitely have a much stronger grasp on the process now. Beyond being a cappella, what I love about it is that I cannot really classify it into a genre. It transitions from style to style and that has been really rewarding. But, its more about you than me, so I hope YOU enjoy it too.
Also, a big thanks to everyone who came out to The Grand Theatre to support us in our CD release concert. I think the people at the theatre were a bit skeptical about us filling the hall, but the cheering crowd really proved them wrong. It was so great to share the night with so many enthusiastic people in the audience. Two encores! I never would have imagined.
With word that we will be returning to Newfoundland to work with Rajaton we are all really excited. It will give us something great to focus on this year. If its half as fun as it was last year we are in for a treat.
The summer here has been great. We've taken an extended break into the summer, partly because it's too nice outside, but also because Julia went to a series of opera seminars and workshops in Italy. As our vacation draws to an end we look forward to all of the challenges that lie ahead of us. Our plan is to return from Newfoundland and immediately begin working on a Christmas CD for the following winter. So it looks like we'll be busy bees once again.
Cheers,
Malcolm
